New Processing Routine Enables Tele-Tech to Implement Local Calling Area Changes More Quickly While Ensuring Quality.

Tele-Tech's local calling area analysts have an additional tool to assist them in delivering data updates quickly and accurately. New features included in this upgrade to our custom local calling data maintenance software enable us to:
  • Automatically select all rate centers in a given county based on a feed of FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standards) data.  This is key in states like Georgia, Kentucky, and Tennessee where county-wide local calling areas are mandated. The program enhancement eliminates the possibility of local researchers neglecting to include all county rate centers in the local calling area.
  • Avoid releasing files that have not yet passed quality assurance processes. The new software establishes a "pending" status not to be released to customers so that files not yet completed cannot be inadvertently delivered to clients.
  • Create custom "metro" areas to expedite calling area creation and maintenance for big cities. This is helpful in places like the New York City metropolitan area where we maintain over 400 individual local calling areas, most of which have about 100 records in common. The creation of the "metro" allows us to define rate centers for an area and include them as a group ("metro"), automatically; thus, saving time and reducing the possibility of errors.

As part of our on-going commitment to quality, Tele-Tech regularly implements program enhancements to help reduce or eliminate the potential for errors in our data.

Tele-Tech Exec Named to Habitat Board
Stephanie Fetchen, Tele-Tech's Vice President of Software Development and Testing, was recently appointed to the Dorchester Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors.
Stephanie's involvement in Habitat started in 2000 when Tele-Tech's parent company, KFR Services became the first local corporate sponsor of a Habitat for Humanity house by donating all of the funds and some of the labor needed to build it. Later, Stephanie served as the liaison between the Junior Service League of Summerville's volunteers and Habitat. Now, as a board member, Stephanie serves on the Family Support Committee where the mission is to welcome new families into the Habitat family and to provide them with a mutual support system, educational opportunities and a forum for discussions regarding homeownership.

Stephanie was appointed to Dorchester Habitat's board because "she has a heart for Habitat as evidenced by her continued support through the years," says Dorchester Habitat's Executive Director, Star Callaway. "We are also pleased to have a continuing presence from Tele-Tech now that Steve Kromer (Tele-Tech's President) and Scott Cave (Tele-Tech's Director of Finance) have served their time on the board and are now moving off," Callaway says.

Are You Paying Too Much in Access Charges for Wireless-Originated Calls?

Per FCC mandate, wireless calls within the wide-ranging Major Trading Areas (MTAs) are local for intercarrier billing purposes and are not subject to access charges. The ruling is straightforward enough, but determining whether a call is intra- or inter-MTA is not--unless you have MTA IQ.

Some MTAs contain over 10,000 NPA-NXXs and span five states. Many carriers wind up paying too much for wireless-originated calls that were local and therefore, not subject to access fees. Tele-Tech's MTA IQ tells you in no uncertain terms whether a call placed from a wireless phone is local or long distance.

Simply find the originating and terminating NPA-NXXs of the call and use MTA IQ to determine the MTA of each. If they are in the same MTA, it's a local call. If not, it's subject to access charges.

How much is overpaying for access hurting your bottom line. Click Here to find out how MTA IQ can reduce your access expense. Or call 800-433-6181 x7103.

Utah Rate Centers Consolidate
The Springdale and Hurricane rate centers in Utah's 435 NPA consolidated in April. Central office codes previously assigned to these two rate centers will now be listed with a rate center name of St. George.

Louisiana Rate Centers to Consolidate in July
A consolidation of rate centers in the New Orleans area is planned for July 29, 2007. Per NANPA's planning letter, the Delacroix, Lake Catherine, St. Bernard and Yscloskey rate centers in the 504 area code will be transitioned to the New Orleans rate center. The Buras, Pointe-a-la-Hache and Port Sulphur rate centers in the 985 area code will also be consolidated into the New Orleans rate center as part of an NPA Boundary Realignment. The Venice rate center in the 985 area code will remain an independent rate center but will be moved to the 504 area code as part of the Boundary Realignment. Permissive dialing will remain in effect from the implementation date until April 30, 2008.
