Q. Is this NPA/NXX
currently valid?
A.
To
determine if a current NPA/NXX is valid, please use our online
V&H Lookup application
located on our website. This information is updated weekly and
contains the complete listing of available data (e.g., VH
coordinates, rate center name) for every current NPA/NXX in our
database.
Q. Why does your NPA/NXX
information differ from my other source(s)?
A.
Tele-Tech's data is based on the industry standard sources.
Tele-Tech's data concurs with the Traffic Routing Administration
which is used as the industry standard. There are many other
sources of this same information that Tele-Tech does not recognize
as industry standard. While these other sources may provide data
that differs from Tele-Tech's, we feel that strictly adhering to
industry standard sources provides the most accurate and reliable
data.
Tele-Tech has recently become aware of issues with cellular NPA/NXXs.
Specifically, prepaid cellular phones are assigned NPAs that, in
some cases, are not valid according to the North American Numbering
Plan Administrator (NANPA). The FCC gave authority to NANPA to
administer the assignment of NPAs (or area codes) to the
telecommunications industry. It appears that prepaid cellular
phones are not consistently assigning numbers in accordance with
NANPA's guidelines. Tele-Tech is still investigating this issue; a
Notification will be issued to all current NPA-NXX Trac (V&H)
customers upon its resolution.
Q. How can I
determine if an NPA/NXX is a wireless exchange?
A.
Tele-Tech recently completed a project to create a Wireless
Indicator field in our V&H Wire Center database. Therefore you
will need to subscribe to our V&H Wire Center database to receive
this information. This field, located in byte 247, contains a "1"
for wireless exchanges, and "0" for landline exchanges. Wireless
exchanges can include pagers, cellular phones, and other wireless
devices.
Q. When do you remove
previously active NPA/NXXs from your data?
A.
When our sources identify that an
individual exchange has been deactivated (i.e., it is no longer a
valid NPA/NXX), we delay the actual deletion from our database for
60 days. This allows our customers that use the data for billing
purposes to bill for delayed calls in their billing cycle. The
exchange is removed from our data 60 days after the effective
deletion date as reported from our sources.
